The leather-clad Harnais watch vividly illustrates the brand's historical expertise applied to watchmaking. At the spring-summer 2009 Hermès runway show, the Harnais Pocket appeared fastened to the strap of handbags, an idea by Jean-Paul Gaultier. This model was thereby breaking free of its traditional watch band to adopt a slender supple leather strap that could be slipped into a pocket or worn as a sautoir-style long necklace. The hours, minutes and date can thus be read off at a flick of the hand. This year, Hermès is treating the Harnais Pocket watch to two new shades: sunny yellow and khaki green, both evoking the Hermès 2009 "Great Escape" theme. This model is now available in nine colours and a choice of two different materials: calfskin (Barenia, smooth, Epsom) or smooth alligator.
