Renowned for its passion for innovative materials, advanced technology and distinguished aesthetics, RADO has never ceased to pursue groundbreaking designs within the lines, shapes, or even the silhouettes of its creations. Such spirit was revealed at the "RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition" from 15 th to 31 st July at Harbour City , Tsimshatsui. As an art-promoting project originating from RADO's headquarters at Switzerland, the "RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition" is very honoured to receive the support of the Hong Kong Design Institute, who is the first art and cultural institute in Hong Kong participating in this project, as well as Prince Jewellery & Watch Company, who offers the brand a spacious exhibition venue at Harbour City. In order to further promote RADO's enthusiasm for art and aesthetics, a kick-off ceremony was held on 15 th July inviting Ms Shirley Mok, Vice-President of RADO, Hong Kong and Macau, Ms Charlie Young, Ambassador of the HOPE Education Foundation Limited, Mr. Jimmy Tang, Chairman of Prince Jewellery & Watch Company, and Ms Joanna Cheng, Head of Printing & Digital Media Department of the Hong Kong Design Institute, to be the officiating guests and exclusive judges for the competition.

The "RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition" features a total of 12 graphic art pieces created by students from the Printing & Digital Media Department of the Hong Kong Design Institute. All the creations are based on the iconic watch series by RADO, such as the Ceramica, Integral, Sintra and True. By using various dynamic elements such as moving sand, shimmering stars, flowing water or roaring fire, participants successfully demonstrate the symbolic shapes, colours, shadows, and even the sensation on RADO watches, turning them into mysterious and futuristic masterpieces that could be displayed in a modern art gallery. Through the creative and artistic mind of students from the Hong Kong Design Institute, guests and visitors are invited to enter the boundless world of RADO which is combined with the most innovative technology, design and materials one can ever imagine.

The kick-off ceremony commenced with a welcoming speech by Ms Shirley Mok, Vice-President of RADO, Hong Kong and Macau , who briefly introduced the background of the "RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition", emphasizing especially on the event's union of "creativity" and "love". After that, several models appeared on stage wearing RADO watches, inviting guests to truly experience the beauty and innovation of RADO through an astounding catwalk show. The ceremony reached its climax as the four exclusive guests and judges - Ms Shirley Mok, Ms Charlie Young, Mr. Jimmy Tang and Ms Joanna Cheng - were invited to tour around the exhibition and give an evaluation on each competition entry. RADO watches, scholarships and trophies were presented to winners who received the highest marks.

The "RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition" also serves its charitable purpose by giving full support to the charitable projects of HOPE Education Foundation Limited, which aims to provide children with better education and a brighter future. As the Ambassador of the Foundation, Ms Charlie Young was invited on stage to share her joyful experience composing "Be Strong! Little Yellow Flower", a picture book from the "HOPE Education - Little Yellow Flower Series". She then signed an autograph on an enlarged cover of "Be Strong! Little Yellow Flower" and presented it to Ms Shirley Mok. In support of the HOPE Education Foundation Limited, Ms Shirley Mok not only presented a RADO watch to Ms Charlie Young, but also presented her an enlarged cheque printed with six "Yellow Flowers", marking the three different ways RADO is going to give support to the HOPE Education Foundation Limited. These ways include: 1) a free copy of "Be Strong! Little Yellow Flower" will be presented to customers upon every purchase of any RADO watch at RADO flagship stores or the New World Centre branch or the Ocean Centre branch of Prince Jewellery & Watch Company; 2) the "HOPE Education - Little Yellow Flower Series", written and autographed by Ms Charlie Young, is available for charity sale at all RADO flagship stores, as well as the New World Centre branch or the Ocean Centre branch of Prince Jewellery & Watch Company; and 3) all the art creations exhibited at the "RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition" are available for sale for charity purpose, with the HOPE Education Foundation Limited as the beneficiary.

Ms Charlie Young, Ambassador of the HOPE Education Foundation Limited, said, "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank RADO for their support for HOPE Education Foundation Limited. We're very happy to be able to promote the message of the Foundation through this 'RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition'. For the past two years, the Foundation has spared no effort in providing a better future for children. While there are many ways to offer love, hope and happiness to children and teenagers, I believe one of the best ways is to provide young people with the opportunities to create their own art pieces, so that they could express their true feelings through their own creations, and through our recognition and appreciation."

Ms Shirley Mok, Vice-President of RADO, Hong Kong and Macau, said, "Ever since the day the brand was established, RADO has built really close ties with 'creativity', which is in fact also one of the reasons behind the brand's great success today. Recently, RADO has officially launched its exciting new initiative, radostar.com, a website conceptualized and produced purely with young creatives and international design students in mind. With highly relevant design content and many social networking features, radostar.com offers a new digital platform to give its community exposure as well as recognition by allowing young and creative talent to publish and share work. The group element of the site allows creatives of all design disciplines to discuss ideas and share thoughts. We are happy to congratulate the participants of the 'RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition' to be the first Hong Kong young designers to participate in radostar.com. From our point of view, the source of 'creativity' exists everywhere; but the greatest source always lies among the young. That's why we must never neglect the young generation as we look for creativity. Through the 'RADO Spark in Design Competition and Exhibition', we hope we could help ignite the spark in the mind of young people, encouraging them to create something that belong to themselves and to the world they see. At the same time, by cooperating with the HOPE Education Foundation Limited, we hope we could unite the concepts of 'love' and 'creativity', further showing the hope we lay on our young generation."
